Chilly Bank holiday weekend for the first UAG YDL match 2019
The first U17/U20 match this season was quite a cold one, as there was a slight breeze blowing all throughout the day. Unfortunately, mainly due to the upcoming exams and some late injuries, we had only 25 K&P athletes competed at Harrow. This was 10 athletes down on our first YDL UAG last season. In order to be competitive as a team in this league we need a turn out ideally of 40+ athletes. We have more than enough athletes at the club, so we need a big rallying cry from all of us, including the athletes that competed, to get more members involved at the remaining 3 matches. Not unsurprisingly, we struggled to fill lots of the events, notably the longer distance runs and many of the U20M events. Notable events on the day were the AAA Grade 1 performance by William Hobson throwing the Shot 14.51m, the U17W & U20W relays who both smashed the club records with a 50.20s (previous 51.1s U17W) and 52.60s (previous 53.4s U20W), a PB in the Pole Vault for Flora with 2.90m and we had two 1st places, three 2nd places and one 3rd place in the 200m races! There were a few other PBs on the day, please look at the full results on the Power of 10 (link provided below). But it was not enough to compensate for the low turnout of athletes and we finished up 6th. If everyone who is not already up to the maximum number of events would fill one more event and with more of our athletes joining in, we may be able to get the points needed to avoid relegation. The next match at Hillingdon on 26 May will give us every opportunity to get everyone out, fill even more events in track and field, and go for a higher finish.
